Moonshine
Moonshine is an up-and-coming spirit with strong American ties. Not only does it have a long history in American subculture, but it has birthed one of the country’s favorite pastimes. You’re probably familiar with NASCAR, right? You can thank moonshine for that because that's how it all started. I'm picturing Ricky Bobby but I may be way off.
So instead of bringing the fruit salad this year, bring a nice quart of moonshine to grandma’s place and start making some new memories this holiday season! Have the camera ready...
Two Famous Distilleries
Midnight Moon Moonshine
If there was ever a Godfather of “legal” moonshine, Junior Johnson would be him. His distillery is located in a city rich in moonshine history and they produce midnightmoon. His moonshine stems from a family recipe that has been around for generations.
Dawsonville Distillery
The second distillery is located in the boomtown of moonshine. The most moonshine police busts in history took place in Dawsonville Georgia. This is the home of Dawsonville Distillery and it is considered the “The Moonshine Capital of the World”. They have some great moonshine that stems from generations of moonshiners. They fought the law, and now we all won!
Moonshine Accessories
Nothing pairs better with moonshine than a good pourer. And we’ve got just the thing at AmeriPour . Our mason jar moonshine pour spout is like stepping back in time with a mason jar full of daddy’s concoction and enjoying a good stiff drink. You can grab a 2 pack from amazon here.
Port
Another personal favorite of mine is port. Where has this gone? I rarely see people talking about this great drink anymore.
Add this to your to-do list
Find a good chocolate cake recipe. I mean an ooey-gooey, finger licking good chocolate cake recipe. Or just buy one from the bakery that fits the same profile.
Next, make a raspberry coulis. Here is a recipe.
Now make sure that chocolate cake is a little warm or it’s the chocolate lava cake recipe above. Pour the raspberry sauce over the piece of cake and serve with one of these ports.
GREAT Ports
Niepoort, Port, LBV, Douro, Portugal, 2009 (***Our Favorite***)
Graham's Vintage Port 2003
Ramos Pinto, Port, Quinta do Bom Retiro 20 Year Old Tawny( Fun Fact: The grapes that grow here are from 80-year-old grape vines)
Gould Campbell, Port, Douro, Portugal, 1994
Take about an organismic experience for your taste buds! You’re welcome ;)
A good port should be allowed to breathe before serving. Sure, it may not always be practical, but it is necessary. Can’t wait? We thought you might not be able to… That's why we created a portable aerator for a quick way to get 30 bubbles per second of aeration into your port without even using a decanter. Not a bad Christmas gift either, if I may say so myself. You can get one here
Hope that gives you some ideas!
Happy Holidays ~
